Blog Entry on Song or News or Discussion

Complete an additional blog post as assigned in class. You may: share a news item or a song or a discussion of issues from our class. Your goal is 1) to shed some light on the importance of history to understanding contemporary events and issues or 2) to help classmates understand the world in its complexity.

For a news item, you would find an article from an important or reputable news source that speaks to an important issue outside of the United States or Europe. I encourage you to look to the news sources on our course links page for news sources. I think you will do best to choose a news article rather than an opinion piece. Include a link to the news item, together with a brief summary, a few words on the questions it raises and the connection to our course. Please include a content warning if the link will take us to material that would be upsetting for some readers/viewers. Keep your entry relatively brief (max 250 words). When you post it on the blog, choose the category “News.”

For a song, you might choose a song that illustrates important musical traditions from around the world – or a song that provides a perspective on one of the themes we have discussed. Embed the video for the song in the blog post (WordPress makes this simple; you can simply paste the url for a Youtube video into the post). Add a few words of introduction and explanation and a note on how it connects to the work of our course. Please include a content warning if the link will take us to material that would be upsetting for some listeners/viewers. Keep your entry relatively brief (max 250 words). When you post it on the blog, choose the category “Song.”

For a discussion of the issues, you would take some time to discuss one of the issues that we’ve discussed in class. Feel free to: summarize our class discussion, provide additional perspectives, draw on relevant examples that would help the class understand the issue more fully. Keep your entry relatively brief (max 250 words). When you post it on the blog, choose the category “Discussion.”
